Re-use of waste cotton textile as an ultrafiltration membrane

چکیده

Textile industry produces millions of tons waste annually, which is predominantly incinerated or landfilled. Cotton textile comprises a quarter total production, and although being renewable, its production highly chemical- water-intensive, rising the need for effective cotton recycling. This study presents an investigation whether it possible to utilize as cellulose source fabrication membranes. The effect casting thickness concentration on prepared membranes’ performance was studied. Membranes cast from 2 wt% solutions exhibited highest permeabilities 1.11 3.09 m3/(m2·s·Pa) 300 150 ?m thickness, respectively, but poor adhesion stability low retention. higher concentrations (5, 6, 7 wt%) resulted in membranes with more stable performance. permeability values were range 0.27 – 0.39 0.51 0.67 m3/(m2·s·Pa). retention these six relatively close each other, showing 80 92% polyethylene glycol (PEG) 35 kDa. Three most promising at 150?m) additionally characterized, negative zeta potential within ?23 ?35 mV pH contact angles very hydrophilic material (14 16°). Overall, results showed that ultrafiltration having attractive properties can be made waste. 1 m2 bed linen enough produce approximately 20 membrane.

Textile Waste Water Treatment With Membrane Bioreactor

Textile waste water treatment for industrial reuse remains as a complicated problem due to several reasons. Among them are: 1) Higher levels of Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) content of the waste water; 2) Non-biodegradable nature of organic dye stuffs present in the effluent. Thus, any adopted treatment system, especially with resp...

Bio Gas from Textile Cotton Waste - An Alternate Fuel for Diesel Engines

Methane was generated from cotton waste, while considering its pollution in textile industries. Cotton waste includes solid content and is rich in cellulose having a moisture content of 8.8%. It is difficult to form slurry as the waste float on water and hence an experimental set up has been made like a batch type digester and experiments were conducted with a different proposition of water wit...

Bioconversion of cotton waste from textile mills to bioethanol by microbial saccharification and fermentation

Energy flows from many sources, exists in a variety of interchangeable forms, and drives all systems. New and renewable sources of energy can make significant contribution, but their role and potential in the short term should not be overstated. It has been estimated that new and renewable sources of energy at present meet only 5-10 per cent of global energy-requirements, which may hopefully go...
